It is never to be expected in a revolution that every man is to change his opinion at the same moment. There never yet was any truth or any principle so irresistibly obvious that all men believed it at once. Time and reason must cooperate with each other to the final establishment of any principle; and therefore those who may happen to be first convinced have not a right to persecute others, on whom conviction operates more slowly. The moral principle of revolutions is to instruct, not to destroy.

That’s very wise. Added bolding mine. One of the many, many reasons why I feel so strongly about civility and respect for everyone, even those who hold opinions one may find offensive, whose mode of existence may seem so completely contrary to everything one feels he or she stands for.

Humility. Compassion. Bridge building. Things of which I don’t think there can ever be enough.

I don't believe there is such a thing as gray rape.

I know there is such a thing as gray rape.

To deny gray rape’s existence, is to deny the subtlety and messiness of reality. It’s not always as neat and tidy as we’d like.

And I’m not talking about “omg well she got drunk so it’s totally her fault.” No. That’s not gray rape. That’s rape.

I’m talking about instances where people don’t know their own boundaries or how to communicate them, who in an unusually extreme way don’t know what they want and what they don’t want, situations where you have two or more very immature, poor communicators with poor, undeveloped connections to their sexual selves.

In fact, in some gray rapes, you have situations where all individuals involved had their boundaries crossed and were not working from a place of sufficient healthy free will. There are situations where you have only two people involved, but you have two aggressors and two victims all the same.

It’s tragic, and we should work to prevent such situations, and it doesn’t mean you can’t hold people accountable to varying degrees, and it isn’t fair, but it happens.

I’m sick of people trying to box an imperfect world into perfect “100% thises” or “100% thats.”

(Spare me the re-blogs. I’m really serious about the spare me the re-blogs thing.)

Happy July 4th Everyone!!!

I’ll be working the evening shift at a Rite Aid, but I’ll be wishing I was at some fireworks display with fried dough, overpriced novelty hats that light up, and my boy to cuddle with.

I actually find July 4th to generally be the most enjoyable holiday. Oh well. I’ll have many more, right? I consensually took the evening shift.

So, I just watched the Sarah Palin press conference.

Look, I don’t care if you’re Republican, Democrat, whatever. The woman, as a public figure, is a trainwreck.

She makes so little sense and comes across so haphazardly, it’s painful to watch.

Felix Salmon » California: The haves and have-nots
What the fuck is going on California. Holy sweet fuck. And why do those in mental health treatment and those in substance abuse treatment (uh, ignoring the fact that subtance abuse is a mental health concern and should not be described separately at least in a mutually exclusive manner…) get fucked when the Department of Corrections doesn’t.

Also, how the hell does an IOU work? Big important question to ask my investment banker father I guess… maybe he knows, because the articles I’ve seen online so far haven’t cleared it up adequately for me.

Also, sorry for the unusual amount of colorful language (and lack of question marks where appropriate). But seriously. California, what the hell is going on.
